R1 - 16 2011 Analysis

We feel this thriller opening was not the best it could have been. Many of the enigmas asked were soon after answered thus ruining the whole idea of the film.
The shots were amature and set up and the viewer was able to see very easily what was going to happen, for example before the girls enter the graveyard they say 'let's go to the graveyard.' This need not have been annouced.
However before the girls come into the frame we see a shot of the ground, this is relativly effective as it quite blurred and it makes the viewer strain to see what the image is. There is also a scene in the grave yard where the girls seem to be disappearing/ fading away and blurring. This is quite effective, and alone could have been evoking enough to create the entire opeing, without the other elements.

The girl shown sleeping restlessly is quite a good shot, especially with the chaning light, although doesn't really fit in with this opening as the 'it was all a dream' sort of set up is really not complex enough for this sort of film.
